Bio

Katia Cadet, also known as Baby Kat, comes to the music industry like a breath of fresh air. Her exotic, sensual, and unique sound is felt through a soothing and warm tonality. She is a singer, a prolific songwriter and a vocal producer. Katia writes in French, English and Creole, in many styles and genres which she equally delivers with great sincerity and credibility.

Born on the beautiful island of Haïti, Katia and her family relocated to Montreal, Canada, where she grew up and began pursuing her musical career. Her father is a singer, songwriter, drummer and guitarist, and her mother is an alto-soprano gospel singer. Growing up in band rehearsal rooms and on stage, Katia was destined to follow in her parents musical footsteps. At the tender age of nine she penned her first song, started performing at twelve and has not stopped since. Baby Kat’s musical influences range from French classics to soulful R&B, and from world beat to reggae music. Singers like Ella Fitzgerald, Sade, Marvin Gaye, Brian McKnight, Bob Marley, and Lauryn Hill (to name a few) are sources of her creative inspiration.

Her credits include music she wrote for Mary J. Blige and Wyclef Jean, which earned her a Grammy nomination in 2001 for the song “911”. She has lent her voice to many of the top charting artists and shared the stage with the industry’s most coveted artists such as Stevie Wonder, Eric Clapton, Marc Anthony, Whitney Houston, Stephen Marley and Destiny’s Child. Most recently, you can hear her voice on the big screen in “Rush Hour 3” performing “L’amour Une Aventure”, a Jazz tune she performed and wrote specifically for the scene in collaboration with multi-Grammy award winning producer Salaam Remi. Signed to Heavytone Records, she is ready to present her first solo album. The head of her label, Kevin Myers, is excited and committed to bringing Katia’s album to great heights, a dream she has been seeking since she was a little girl.

Heavytone Records proudly presents Katia Cadet. She has been called Haiti’s best-kept secret by many, and those who have had the opportunity to hear her sing and see her perform have asked, “Where have you been?” It is with great excitement that we take her from behind the scenes and out of the shadows to bring you an album that reflects her cultural background, her many influences, the languages she speaks and various styles in which she writes. Her debut album “Boundless” will embody ten powerhouse songs rich in melodies and harmonies in French, English and Creole. Its vast commercial appeal shows great crossover potential and promises to make a lasting impression. Let her take you away as she lays the sounds of Zouk-Soul and R&B fusion upon you.
